I got my carry license yesterday!
 

It was in the mail when I got back from work on Saturday so I walked myself on over to the local gun store to pick myself up a new pistol as a present to myself. I have a Ruger Mark III that my father gave me but I wanted something different to conceal carry. I fell in love with the Wather PPS 9mm. I picked it out without a second thought, filled out all the paperwork and handed it to the clerk for him to finish. I was feeling really good about my soon-to-be purchased pistol when he questioned my birthyear, 1989. Apparently, I can't purchase handguns until I am 21 years old. My father was there as well purchasing a new pistol so he offered to put the pistol in his name but they declined the sale. I turned around and hanging on the other wall was their AR-15s. I said something like "The Government won't let me purchase a pistol, but they would let me purchase one of these AR-15s right?" So I did just that and am now the proud owner of an AR-15. Pictures of me and my new rifle coming later tonight. The Walther PPS 9mm is on my Birthday list because apparently my father can buy it and then give it to me as a gift but I can't buy it for myself. http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/w...04&isFirearm=Y

So, you got a carry permit but you're not old enough to buy a handgun? That seems strange. Congrats on the AR! I love mine. Now, stock up on ammo and mags. :wink:

Congratulations. I agree though that its strange that you can get a carry permit yet not buy a gun. Go figure.

I can't wait till I turn 21 and can FINALLY buy a pistol. I find it hilarious that I can own assault rifles (I have a M1A and a AR-15) but something as dinky as a pistol is apparently to unsafe for such a immature kid like myself. hahaha

I'm in the same boat. Have your dad go in on another day to buy the pistol again. Then he can sell it to you after a couple weeks and time on the range. Maybe take some home video's asking to borrow his pistol while shooting on the range.

"Straw Purchase" legislation is such BS. I was on a date a couple weeks back and the liberal girl I was with was telling me about her mom buying an AK for a friend with an out of state license.

I decided to spare her the news that her mom was entitled to a 10 vacation in club fed and in violation of one of McCarthy's pet federal bills. Figured complimenting her earrings would be a better move. :smokin:

I would never make a straw purchase myself though. :smokin: I'm just gonna recommend the same gun to enough people on the condition I'll buy it from them if they don't like it. That should be completely legal. Either that or I'll put out a craigslist wanted ad for the specific firearm I want at $20 over normal in "less than 2 weeks used condition." Either that or I'm getting my age changed. It's a work in progress.

(up until a couple years ago the ATF interpretation of Straw Purchases did not include purchasing on behalf of minor's, as they were not prohibited persons, however the current position is that such a purchase is perjury or some rubbish as a result of the question "Are you the actual purchaser of this firearm?"

Case law includes a precedent where the argument was that being in violation of the ATF's interpretation constituted an unconstitutional appointment of legislative ability, and that the law was in violation of the 5th amendment due to it's vague nature. Both arguments were struck down as "the crime the dependent is charged with is perjury, and the ATF's interpretation is irrelevant."

True story here. I married my wife in 1970, I was 18, she was 21. I was eligible to go to Viet Nam, but forget about buying guns or ammo till I was 21! So I had to ask my wife to buy for me. I took a little grief over that!

At least you are legal. and when the heat is on ........ you can get what need when the time comes.
